ABSTRACT
Since “culture turn” emerged, the position of translator has undergone a great change from invisible to visible and more researches on translator’s subjectivity have been carried out and published, which have great influenced translation, especially in the literary translation field. This paper analyzes influential factors, including factors concerning translators, such as his/her growing background and experience, knowledge and linguistic competence, and factors concerning authors and texts, society, history, environment, patronage, target readers and other factors. Two Chinese versions of The Prince and the Pauper are chosen for this study. In this paper, translator’s subjectivity, such as choice of translation strategy, method, interpretation and re-creation in translation and translation style, are analyzed. The research shows that translator’s subjectivity can display the importance and special status of translators. It is hoped that this study can lead readers and translators to understand profoundly translator’s functions in translating and may help translators, under different conditions, to create more and more excellent translation.
