ABSTRACT
English is a compulsory course of the middle school. Since the reform and opening up, with growing foreign exchanges, more and more people with high quality of English are needed.
Reading ability is one of the four basic skills of learning English, and it is the most important way to get information. The teaching of reading is extremely important in the entire English teaching procedure. However, there are obvious drawbacks in traditional English teaching, and traditional education models are unable to meet increasing demand for English talents. In the process of fostering students’ reading ability, and many of them lack self-learning ability. China’s philosophy of education turns from teacher-center to student-center, from spoon-feed method to the method of students’ self-learning ability. Based on the study of the theory of self-study and investigation of the self-learning situation of middle school students, this paper puts forward some relevant suggestions to develop students’ independent learning ability in English reading.
