ABSTRACT
With the implement of New English Curriculum Standards in China, more and more attention has been paid to students’ motivation in English learning. As an important theory in motivation, attribution theory has brought many implications for English teaching. In learning, students’ attributions are often biased. Teachers should guide students to make positive and right attributions in order to stimulate and improve their learning motivation, avoid the sense of helplessness in learning.
In recent years, more and more people have researched on the application of attribution theory in English teaching. However, the subjects among many researches are mainly undergraduate students. Few are the students in senior high schools. Thus, this research on the application of attribution theory in senior high schools English teaching is practically helpful.
Under the guidance of the theory, the author investigates and analyzes the senior high school students’ attribution of English. The result shows that most of them have correct and positive attribution, but some students regard external factors are more important than internal factors. Based on the results, the author gives some suggestions on teaching: 1.Teachers need to pay more attention on students’ self-attribution. 2. Teachers should learn their students’ tendency on self-attribution and guide them to attribute correctly. 3. Teachers should attribute their teaching correctly.
