一、教材内容分析
This unit is the eighth unit of PEP edition — Go for it! It’s used for the first semester of grade 8. This unit takes “cooking” as the topic and selects materials fro m students’ daily life, which accords with students’ reality. The purpose of this unit is to enable students to describe the processes and the instructions on cooking. In Section A, students can learn some new knowledge about making a banana milk shake, a salad and Russian soup through listening and talking. They are supposed to make conversations with their partners by using the new knowledge so that they can talk about some simple processes of cooking in their daily life. In “Grammar Focus”, students can learn how to ask the number of a certain countable noun and the amount of a certain uncountable noun. Section B first introduces the preference of ingredients and Thanksgiving day. Students can gain better reading ability and know further about Chinese and foreign cultures thorough listening, reading and talking. And the writing task of this unit is writing a recipe on one’s own. Students can apply the knowledge of this unit to their writing. The topic of this unit is close to students’ daily life so that they have more enthusiasm for learning, which makes them become confident to express their ideas in English as much as possible.
二、学习者特征分析
The students have already had a certain basic ability in English, and by assigning the preparatory homework in advance, students have already had a certain understanding of the whole unit. They also have a certain foundation in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The new knowledge in the listening and grammar lessons has laid the foundation for the in this unit. So students can go through those four periods naturally.
The eighth grade students are in adolescence and are passionate about things. The most important thing is that they are willing to express their wishes. The learning content of this unit is about food cooking and comes fro m their daily life. On the whole, students have a higher interest in learning. Most students have strong willingness and can pay attention in class .
But some students are with poor English foundation. The teacher should encourage students to learn actively. The teaching procedures should be carefully designed so that all students can actively participate in the task and keep their interest in learning. A good learning atmosphere, ensures that every student can keep up with the team and learn the knowledge, use the knowledge very well and flexibly.
