This unit is the eleventh unit in the first volume of Grade Six, Starting from the third grade. This unit mainly focuses on the communicative of “talking about the date of birthday and how to celebrate it”. In part 1, students are supposed to use the special question word when to ask someone about their birthdays. This part also presents some nouns, so that students can understand the concepts of countable and uncountable nouns. In part 3, students should master three phonetic symbols /ɪə /, /ʊə /, /eə / and the phonetic words. In remaining part, students can further talk about their birthday dates and how to celebrate their birthdays. The reading material for this unit is about leap year birthday, students can learn what a leap year is, which can increase the students’ information of common sense. Most students in Grade Six from this school are from rural areas. Many students have a poor foundation in English, and some students often listen carelessly during classes. Some students’ learning attitude is not decorous enough, and they have not formed good learning habits. Many students’ learning methods are not proper, and they even fail to master English pronunciation. Some students do not take the initiative to learn, the assignment of listening and speaking homework can not be completed seriously after school. Therefore, in the instructional design, students are divided into several groups. Group activities, classroom games and different kinds of exercises are used to attract students’ attention. At the stage, the teachers need to help students develop a good value, teach students not to be extravagant and lavish at their birthday parties. In terms of homework assignment, stratified homework is implemented according to the actual situation of students, so that different students can find appropriate methods to consolidate after class and better complete their learning tasks.
