This unit is the sixth unit in the first volume of Grade 7 Go for it. The central topic of this unit is Food. The main language goal is to talk about likes and dislikes. Section A of this unit presents the basic language knowledge and preliminary application related to talking about likes and dislikes. It first introduces the main information and sentence patterns through the presentation of food vocabulary. Then the listening practice in this section can strengthen students’ memory of learned vocabulary and sentence patterns. At last the textbook sets up a pair activity to practice sentence patterns in which the subject is the third person singular and to highlight the grammatical points of this unit. Section B is based on Section A. Section B first expands the vocabulary about food by matching food with pictures. The listening activities mainly centers on three meals a day and eating habits. This paves the way for reading about healthy eating habits. Then the writing activities about what students like and don’t like for breakfast, lunch and dinner help students apply the new expressions and sentence patterns to daily communication. The main content of Self Check is to self-evaluate students’ mastery of vocabulary about food and sentence patterns, such as “What food do you like and dislike?” To sum up, this unit takes food as the main line, and carries out a series of tasks and activities around language function items such as talking about likes and dislikes and three meals a day. The learning of this unit can help students realize the importance of developing healthy eating habits.
