Abstract:Francis Scott Fitzgerald, the great American novelist, was the spokesman of the Jazz Age at the beginning of the twentieth century. His masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, embodies the social atmosphere in which people lost themselves and wanted to enjoy themselves. The novel restores the low status and tragic fate of women in the society, and the study of feminism has become an inevitable trend.
The three women in the novel Daisy, Martel, and Jordan are the representatives of trendy girls. Although they are of different classes, they are very attractive. Their personalities are very different, but their fate is regrettable. In this thesis, the author makes a thorough interpretation of the social phenomena and analyzes the images of the three female protagonists in the novel and the causes of their tragic fate. From the analysis of this thesis, we can know that the negative image of women and their tragic fate are caused not only by their own reasons, but also by the oppression of women by the patriarchal society.
