Abstract：The 21st century is an era of the Internet. With the development of network technology, using the network to study English has become a trend. The information of network is so rich that provides many materials of English studying to college students. Without space-time restriction students can communicate in English with people in different countries through network. The technology of network update soon which make college students get progress quickly. Network is welcomed among college students to study English because of its advantages. In traditional English study process, college students read English textbooks, listen to tapes, look up dictionary and so on to learn English. There are many differences between traditional study methods and network study methods. Compared with traditional ways to study English, there are audios, videos, e-mails, social network softwares and other diversities adopted in network study. Studying English on network is more interesting and conducive and can improve college student’s self-study abilities. Although there are many advantages of studying English on network, it has some deficiencies. It is difficult for college students to choose appropriate study methods on network because there are too much information on network. College students cannot try every method. Moreover, college students must spend much time in finding study resources because English study resources on network are rich. By analyzing the characters of network, and comparing with traditional methods of English study, people found that the advantages of studying English on network had a great impact on college students. It can improve their self-study abilities and they can feel convenient when they study online. According to the results of the paper, it can help college students find a right way to study English on network and avoid the disadvantages.
