Abstract

Nowadays, the Internet is developing rapidly. The number of the Internet users is becoming more and more as well as the network catchwords. And network catchwords play an important role in the society for they show the cultural connotation of our nation and the popular things in the present. With the development of the international relationship, more and more foreigners get in touch with the network catchwords. For better communication, it is essential to translate these network catchwords in English. As a theory to reveal the development of language, the memetics have a strong persuasion in the Chinese-English translation of network catchwords.    

    Based on the memetics, this thesis analyzes the Chinese-English translation of network catchwords from the perspective of genotype meme and phenotype meme. The process of the Chinese-English translation of network catchwords is the same with the process of the transmission of meme. The process of the Chinese-English translation always follows a certain translation rules and cultural background. Through genotype meme and phenotype meme, the readers can understand the connotation of the network catchwords clearly and easily. This analysis is beneficial to promote the communication between western countries and eastern countries. What’s more, this analysis could make foreign readers know more about Chinese.
