Abstract
With the frequent exchanges of international culture, many English movies have been introduced to China and become more and more popular with Chinese audiences. The continuous introduction of English movies also provides a convenient and efficient channel for Chinese audiences better understanding the English-speaking countries’ culture. The title, as an integral part of the movie, is the soul. A good title translation can not only help to get a higher grade for the film, but also can be able to attract audiences’ attention in a short period of time. It would be valuable if we pay attention to Chinese traditional cultures when translating the English film title. Domestication, a translation strategy, takes Chinese traditional cultures into consideration, and the use of it in English film title translation makes the title more attractive to Chinese audiences.
This paper elaborates the application of domestication in English film title translation from cross-cultural perspective to get closer to Chinese cultures and satisfy Chinese audiences. And the film’s aesthetic value and commercial value can be achieved then.
