Abstract: The Bluest Eye, written by Tony Morrison, is a novel on the basis of the spiritual slavery the American black suffered from around 1941. It tells the tragic life of a black girl Pecola who was only 11. The problem of the spiritual slavery which is impacted by the white culture is quite serious. As the most vulnerable group, the black is the biggest victim of the spiritual slavery. This paper explains Pecola’s marginalized fate from perspectives of the society and the family and analyzes the causes of Pecola’s marginalized fate in terms of three aspects: Pecola’s self-contemptuous character, morbid ethic of her family and social environment. Accordingly, the ponderance of the spiritual slavery and the causes of it can be revealed.
