Abstract: This paper studies the subtitle translation of the film The Flowers of War under the guidance of the theoretical framework of Relevance Theory and tries to explore how translators use the foreignization and domestication strategies under the theory and adopt what methods in the process of translation. After analyzing many examples of subtitle translation in this film, the author holds that translators should abide by relevance principle, try to get optimal relevance between Chinese and English, consider cognition and expectation of target language audiences and supply optimal relevance information for them. It can hopefully help target audiences achieve the best contextual affect with smaller processing effort.
