Abstract: Chinese literary works are embedded with various culture-loaded expressions, passing on Chinese traditional culture. With Luo Tuo Xiang Zi as a typical case, culture-loaded expressions can be divided into five categories: religious notions, historical events, social system, specific lifestyle and folklores. On the basis of reception aesthetics, the translation of culture-loaded expressions is influenced by cultural elements and such concepts as horizon of expectation, aesthetic distance, role of readers and fusion of horizons need to be considered. In order to help the target reader gain a relatively full understanding of those culture-loaded expressions and appreciate the charm of the other culture at the most extent, such methods as literal translation, explanation, and transliteration could be flexibly adopted according to specific situations for the translation of culture-loaded expressions.
