Abstract: Deepened translation studies and the “cultural turn” give prominence to the translator’s subjectivity. With analysis on the writing features of Hong Gao Liang Jia Zu and Howard Glodblatt’s subjectivity in translation, this thesis aims to study the influence of translator’s subjectivity on the choice of translating strategies and methods. The thesis, on the one hand, summarizes four influential factors, including linguistic and cultural features of Hong Gao Liang Jia Zu, Glodblatt’s understanding of translation, the purpose off translation and ideology. On the other hand, with a comparative study between Red Sorghum and Hong Gao Liang Jia Zu, the thesis analyzes how Howard Glodblatt’s subjectivity is affected in terms of the selection of the source text, attitude towards translation strategies as well as the adoption of specific translation methods.
