Abstract: Daniel Defoe, the father of English novel, created Robinson Crusoe on the basis of the real experience of a shipwrecked mariner, which is the first desolate island novel in English literature. The novel tells a story that Robinson Crusoe survived a shipwreck on an island, overcame a lot of difficulties through constant trials and his wisdom, and returned to England successfully after 28 years. This thesis mainly analyzes cultural colonialism in Robinson Crusoe, through the relationship between Robinson and Friday, Friday's aphasia and the loss of Friday's identity. By interpreting the author’s Euro-Centric view, it points out that Robinson Crusoe reflects overseas expansion of European colonists in early period and it warns us the importance of treasuring and protecting national cultures in the globalization today.
