Abstract: The thesis tries to conduct a study on English film titles translation under the Skopos theory. With the guidance of Skopos theory, the author puts forward four purposes of film titles which are informative purpose, cultural purpose, aesthetic purpose and commercial purpose. The thesis makes a conclusion of translation strategies by analyzing numerous examples of English film title translations, and categorizes them into six aspects: literal translation, liberal translation, transliteration, the combination of literal translation and liberal translation and the combination of literal translation and transliteration, and adaptation.
