ABSTRACT
In English listening, listening strategy is one of the important factors affecting students’ understanding. In recent years, the relationship between listening strategies and listening comprehension has received wide attention and become the focus of studies. This study used the original questions of listening comprehension section of College English Test-6 as experiment materials, the freshmen majoring in English in Jingjiang College of Jiangsu University as participants, the scores of the questionnaires for listening strategies as laboratory indexes, to study effects of different listening strategies on listening comprehension. The results of the study showed that firstly, the highest frequency of strategies using was cognitive strategies, followed by social/affective strategies, while the lowest frequency was meta-cognitive strategies using. Secondly, listening scores might be affected by listening strategies, but it did not entirely depend on the listening strategies. Thirdly, High Score Group and Low Score Group had significant difference in strategy using. Meta-cognitive strategies’ use frequency of High Score Group was significantly higher than Low Score Group. The result also showed that the different use frequencies of listening strategies of the independent college students really had a significant influence on listening comprehension.
