Abstract
This paper is based on the studies of domestication and foreignization, with comparing two different versions of A Record of the Xiangji Pavilion to let the readers understand that each strategy has its advantages and disadvantages. This paper analyzes different applications of domestication and foreignization in the same context to stand out the differences and merits, especially in the light of conveying Chinese culture and original writer’s feelings. Through analysis, cultural value is the distinction of two strategies for translators. Different translators have different culture backgrounds so that the way of their understandings of original text is not the same. As a result, they choose their domestic or foreign way to translate writings. Indeed domestication and foreignization are a whole rather than the dual conflict. Whether translators choose which kind of strategy, translators ought to combine two strategies with reality which caters for the needs of readers and society to create splendid translated versions. To that extent, Chinese culture can be well disseminated through translated versions.
