Abstract

With the rapid development of economy and culture, the connection between China and other countries becomes closer. It is obvious that the cooperation and external exchange will be increasingly frequent day by day. The public sign plays an important role in the cultural exchange. Recently, most of the researchers devote themselves to improving the translation level of the public sign, but there are still many problems. The existing results should be applied into social reality effectively, and the principles and translation methods of the public sign should also be put forward. It is necessary to create a valid standard and international general environment.

Under the perspective of functional equivalent theory, this thesis will take the city Huai’an as an example and discuss the translation problems of public sign. In order to figure out the problems, scholars should do their best to translate accurately and use the three methods: borrowing, imitating and creating English to solve the problems.
