Abstract
With the rapid development of economic globalization,the internal market has becomed more and more mature, the aesthetic idea of people has changed, and people’s desire for beauty has been more straightforward. Therefore, for beauty-conscious women, cosmetics are the preferred consumption goods. Facing an enormous internal market, various cosmetics brands endeavor to stand out in the fierce competition, and instructions as a window to convey information of products to consumers, so the quality of translation is vital.
This paper takes the perspective of Skopostheorie of German functionalist approach to discuss the translation of female cosmetic instructions. Skopostheorie, a core of German functionalist approach is proposed by functional scholar Vermeer and Reiss. They hold that translation is a communicative act. The purpose of cosmetic instructions is to convey the information of product as complete as possible to enable consumers to have a better understanding of goods, and to increase their consumption volume. The paper discusses and analyses the translation strategy of female cosmetic instructions and the practical application of three principles under the guidance of Skopostheorie through abundant examples.
