Abstract
With the implementation of the New National English Curriculum Standards, group cooperative learning is in wide use in English teaching at senior high school. Many English teachers innovate their teaching by adapting cooperative learning to their classes. But there is some confusion about how teachers conduct cooperative learning in real class, is it effective, and how students think of it? Accordingly, the author decides to do some researches in order to find the status in quo of the implementation of cooperative learning in English at senior high school. By this way, she can find some possible problems during the procedure of conducting cooperative learning and find out effective solutions to these problems. In this research, both interview and questionnaire are conducted to get comprehensive information. With the results, the author can conclude that cooperative learning has been widely used in the high school English teaching and most students are fond of it. However, problems still exist during the procedure of conducting cooperative learning in the real classes. For instance, teachers find it difficult to conduct cooperative learning in a good way since they don’t have a thorough understanding of it. Many students feel it’s hard to cooperate with others since they haven’t been told any skills about it. To solve these problems, the author provides some suggestions based on related researches and observation in real English classes.
