Abstract:This paper intends to explore the value of feminism, which is vividly shown in the Wise Children. It is divided into an introduction, two chapters and a conclusion. The first part is a brief introduction of Angela Carter, her living environment, and her work Wise Children. This part also summarizes literature review about Wise Children at home and abroad in recent years. In chapter one, discussions about Angela Carter’s unique feminist views will be made in two aspects: firstly, it introduces the definition of feminism, reviews the development of the western feminism and the British feminist literary tradition, and then analyzes Carter’s feminist views. Secondly, the analysis of the roots of Carter’s feminism perspective is made from Carter’s family background and her social surroundings. Chapter two focuses on an analysis of the novel of Wise Children. It first takes on women’s unequal position in patriarchal society. Then, it calls for women’s rebellions, including physical independence, mental independence, creating women’s own conversational styles and applying unique ways of thinking and creation. The last part is the conclusion of the thesis, which sums up the feminist interpretation of Angela Carter’s Wise Children.

     This paper, by analyzing the novel Wise Children written by Carter, is to explore the awakening and growth of feminist thought and to show a magnificent picture where women continue pursuing freedom all the time. Carter has profoundly criticized in this work Wise Children that it can never fail to obliterate humanity under a patriarchal society and finally has strongly expressed her wish that every man and woman is able to live in an equal and prosperous society. Under her vivid description, women’s appearance and mind cannot be bound by time, and finally, they can achieve the ultimate goal- realizing the true freedom of the soul and the body. There are massive connotations in Carter’s feminism. Her ideas abundantly play an important feminist role in the history of cultural development and have a good influence on a mass of writers and critics all over the world.
