Abstract: Sons and Lovers, an autobiography of D. H. Lawrence, reflects complex relationship between men and women in the Victorian age. For a long time, scholars has concentrated on the issue whether the protagonist Paul in Sons and Lovers had a special affection on his mother, which is called the Oedipus Complex proposed by Sigmund Freud. As research continues, people have more diverse and deeper views on the topic of this book. Some scholars suggest that D. H. Lawrence expressed his view of ideal love through Sons and Lovers. Based on the existing results, this thesis explores the causes and effects of three love models on Paul and finally concludes the author‘s view of ideal love -- men and nature, body and soul, together in one.
