The teaching material is from Junior High School English book for grade seven.
Although the grammatical points of the present progressive tense seem simple, some students have a weak foundation in English and varying levels of English. Therefore, in order to strengthen students’ foundation, students learn the grammar of the present progressive tense in the second term of grade seven.
The unit is designed to work on this grammar point with a listening exercise, a speaking exercise, a grammar focus and a reading. Based on my understanding, I have designed the material into four lessons. Among these, I have chosen three lessons to present: a grammar lesson, a listening and speaking lesson, and a reading lesson. This is because I think these three lessons can best highlight the focus of the lesson.
二、学习者特征分析
Students in grade seven are in a period of transition. Some students have a poor level of English and may find junior English difficult and uncomfortable for their first year of study in junior high school. Students at this stage may feel intimidated by setbacks in their studies and may be rebellious. Therefore, teacher should pay attention to their learning situation, analyse their knowledge gaps and deficiencies, identify their shortcomings in time, pay more attention to and encourage students who are lagging behind, and encourage them to build up confidence and try to overcome difficulties during study.
In addition, students in grade seven are active, curious and expressive, so teacher should use vivid and varied teaching methods and a wide range of active learning styles to stimulate their interest in learning. Physiologically, students are easily distracted, love to express their opinions, and want to be praised by teachers, so in teaching, teacher should seize this characteristic of students and give full play to their initiative.
