This unit is the eleventh unit in the first volume of Grade 9. It takes "human and ego" as the theme to talk about how external things affect people's mood. The key grammar is the usage of the causative verb- "make". Through the study of this unit, we can guide students to learn how to compare and choose things that have an impact on themselves, and correctly deal with some practical problems. Moreover the learning of this unit not only realizes the goal of language learning, but also cultivates students' cooperative, communicative ability and cultivates their emotions and attitudes. This unit contains two parts: Section A and Section B. In Section A, most activities involve listening and speaking. In this part, students can master the structure, meaning and usage of the causative verb- "make". Besides, students are supposed to learn lots of new words and phrases of emotions such as upset ,relax ,excited ,and so on. Section B focuses on reading and writing. This part is about a passage of pursuing happiness. On the base of Section A and this passage, students can express their points of view more clearly and thoughtfully. The reading material for this unit is a short story about a king who wanted to find happiness. The theme of the article is that happiness consists in contentment,This story will improve students’ emotional quality and get the students to establish the correct values. Furthermore, the topic about emotions is close to students’ life and this can easily arouse students’ interest in learning and make them willing to participate in the relevant activities. As for writing , there are lots of materials ready for them. This writing task is “Happiness consists in contentment”. It is very attractive for students because students in junior high school are full of emotions.Writing a passage can give full play to their imaginations expand their thinking and stimulate their desire to speak English.
