This is the third unit in the first volume of Grade 8. The topic of this unit is the comparison of individual characteristics. In this unit, students will learn vocabulary, grammar, and develop listening, speaking, writing and reading skills. The whole unit revolves around a “than”, so that students can use English to compare people and things around them in daily communication, so as to get some ideas and trigger thinking. The teaching aim of this unit in addition to increasing students' vocabulary, strengthening comprehension, and mastering grammar rules and developing students' four basic skills focuses on the emotional cultivation to make the students go through the comparison of different characteristics in order to have their critical thinking. To be specific, students can think about whether friends should be the same as them, think about their criteria for making friends, and understand the idea that everyone is a unique individual, etc.
In Section A, students are introduced to the topic of this unit by comparing different people and things, as well as learning and practicing the grammar rule of comparison. Section B is about the integrated use of comparatives, which consist of the training of the four basic skills. By setting different situations, students can learn grammar in different real-life situations, so that students can have a deeper and more real understanding of grammar rules. This also makes students more impressed with the important and difficult points of the unit.
