教材内容分析
This module is the sixth module in the first volume of Grade 5 New Standard English. This module made up of two units focuses on the communicative function of "talking about someone's ability" and students’ ability to express a comparison of someone's present and past ability in combination with the past tense learned previously.
This module takes "sports" as the topic, aims to guide students to use the modal verb "can" to talk about someone's sports ability and let students learn to express what they are good at and evaluate others’ strengths.
As the material comes from students' personal life, the students will have the desire and appeal to express, and at the same time, the students' interest will be aroused and the learning efficiency will be correspondingly improved. To use the modal verb ‘can’ and to review the past tense are the focus of this unit. After this unit, students will be able to use key words, phrases and target language to evaluate someone's ability and compare the past and present of someone’s ability. There are four periods in this module.

Teaching important points:
1.To help students pronounce the words and the sentence patterns accurately and master them.
2.To cultivate and train students' reading comprehension ability and the ability to extract information.
3.To enable students to master the sentence patterns and the way of expression about how to compare someone’s present and his past.
4.To cultivate students' ability to think independently and conclude.
Teaching difficult points:
1.To enable students to understand the correct use of the ability to evaluate others .
2.To improve students’ listening and speaking ability including extracting specific and important information and encouraging students to express in English confidently.
3.To enable students to use the words and sentence patterns to compare some one’s present with the past confidently in daily life.
4. To enable students to write a composition by using the expressions learned in this class.
